Super Easy Pizza Dough!

We LOVE homemade pizza at our house! We make it a lot, especially on Friday nights. This pizza dough recipe we have been using for our whole marriage. It is super easy and doesn’t take very long to make.

Super Easy Pizza Dough!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet of yeast ( or 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 3 tablespoons butter flavored Crisco
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3-4 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Mix the yeast with the warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes. Add the crisco (or butter), salt and sugar. Slowly start to add the flour as the mixer is going. Add enough flour so that the dough is not sticking to the side of the mixer and more but not so much that the dough becomes tough. Let it rise 10-15 minutes.

I usually double the recipe. It makes 3 medium or 2 large pizzas. After I have it all spread out, I add my favorite sauce.

Then I added some shredded mozzarella, chopped red pepper, chopped basil leaves, diced marinated artichoke hearts, and feta cheese. The Neapolitan brand artichokes are my favorite. To help the basil not get burned and crispy, I add more mozzarella cheese to the top. Plus, who doesn’t love extra cheese?

In the summer it gets so hot and turning on our oven is the last thing we want to do. We discovered grilling the pizza last summer and it was a game changer!

Don’t let the grill get hotter than 400 degrees and check it often. It will cook faster than your oven.

It’s nice that you can cook the pizza outside so you don’t have to heat up your house in the summer. Try using olive oil in place of the Crisco – it gives the dough the pizza shop flavor.
