It’s finally time to say goodbye to 2016 and hello 2017. For me, this has been an amazing year and I’m not ready to let it go but a new year always brings room for new opportunities.
Some of us already have new plans and goals set for 2017 and others are just going with the flow. Either way, a new year is the perfect time to completely change our lives around or start making small changes like taking care of your hair!
Maybe you want to grow it out this year or plan on using less heat and protecting it more. I started this new year’s resolution when I dyed my hair at home and wanted to make sure it lasted as long as possible. I knew that sulfate-free shampoo and conditioners are a must-have because the formula is gentle and won’t pull the color out. But what I found out is that sulfate-free products are actually much better whether you dye your hair or not.
First of all, what’s sulfate?
Sulfate is this powerful ingredient, like a detergent that takes away oil and dirt. It’s found in soaps, toothpaste, laundry detergents and face washes. So why is it bad, don’t we want clean hair? Yes, but sulfate is too powerful for our hair. It strips out all the natural oils which after a long period of time causes breakage and dry hair.
If you want to keep your hair soft, moisturized and brighter than ever then invest in some sulfate-free products. From my experience, they’re not more expensive, you just have to look for the “sulfate-free” label. The first time you use it, it’ll feel weird because it doesn’t lather up as much as other shampoos but that doesn’t mean it’s not working or cleaning your hair. It is just more gently.
Brands like L’Oreal have a whole line of sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. I use the Ever Pure Volume shampoo since my hair lacks in the “volume” department but they also have moisture, blonde, frizz-free and repair options.
Have a Happy New Year!
